Shop Local & Small Business

November 20, 2020 by BudgetBlogger Leave a Comment

This Christmas season I have really been thinking about how I shop for gifts. I will admit I am the Amazon queen.  I usually have most if not all of my Christmas gifts for family purchased by Black Friday.

But this year I’m rethinking my Amazon splurge and am trying to think more about how I can support local and small businesses that are hurting. Unfortunately I live in a very small town and there isn’t much to pick from as far as local.

Etsy has become my new favorite website to browse. Although probably not local to me most of the stores are small businesses or individuals just trying to make a living by selling some sort of handmade item.

I have already ordered some beautiful handmade wooden toys for my daughter that will last so much longer than most of the plastic junk you get nowadays and found a local carpenter to build a piece of furniture for a gift. The cost is a bit higher but you are supporting a family. Your purchase could be paying to put food on the table, or buy clothes for their kids, rather than just padding the pocket of another corporation.

I urge you to consider shopping local or small business to help them out in this time of trouble. Keep in mind custom and handmade stuff usually takes longer to produce so make sure get your orders in early so they make it in time for Christmas!
